Athletics and India

Watching IAAF world championship 2013 being held in Moscow on TV. Not at all surprised that no Indian athlete is participating in spite of the fact that Indians constitute 1/5th of the world population. Was surprised that no athlete of Indian origin is to be seen participating (typical of our countrymen and media, feel proud if I find any Indian connection in famous personalities). Surprised because personalities of Indian origin are now head of states, CEO of MNC’s, in the list of richest, Spell Bee champions, astronaut and what not. The youngsters of Indian origin do have excellent facilities for training which all these advanced economies provide. But no athletic champion of Indian origin? So is it correct just to emphasis that Indian athletes don’t have world class facilities. Don’t think Kenyan athletes are doing well in middle and long distance running because of the best of facilities are made available to them. I think it is in the Gene. It may take couple of generations or even more, before Indian athletes start to do consistently well in track and field events. Will be more than happy if I am proved wrong. http://timepasswithak61.blogspot.com/
